Ground training
Ground training takes place locally in our cadet training locations and involves learning skills and techniques that will be useful in civilian or service life. This training includes first aid, citizenship, the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme, camping, drill, rifle target shooting (marksmanship), communications (radios). We also have a band for the musically minded.
Cadet training syllabus
The Air Cadet syllabus typically takes a young person through the probationary stage to becoming a Staff Cadet, the training covers all aspects of aviation operation, history of the Corps, outward bound camp craft, and much general service training.
Qualifications / Classifications
- The Air Cadet training classification syllabus is now part of the BTEC in Public Services and the BTEC in Aviation Studies.
- Cadets are able to obtain other qualification and certificates in sporting activities, outward bound, and flying 'wings'.
Air training
Air training takes place locally in our cadet training locations and at our VGS (Volunteer Gliding Squadrons) and AEF's (Air Experience Flights). This involves learning skills and techniques that relate directly to aviation and may lead to gaining a Pilots licence. This training includes principles of flights, airmanship, engines, airframes, avionics, air navigation, aircraft recognition, spacecraft, communications.

Much of the training can be credited towards gaining a BTEC in
either BTEC Public Services and/or BTEC Aviation Studies.
