Flt Lt Chris Tocher joined 211 (Newbury) Sqn as a cadet in 1996 and attained the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer. He tried just about every event available, but in particular was on the unit shooting team, enjoyed Fieldcraft, went to India on the International Air Cadet Exchange and also discovered a passion for flying and gliding. Since completing his gliding scholarship at 16yrs he quickly progressed to flying other cadets on experience flights, achieved his Private Pilots Licence following an RAF Flying Scholarship and at 18yrs became an Air Cadet Gliding Instructor at 612VGS in Abingdon where he still teaches cadets today.
Flt Lt Tocher has been a staff member on several units over recent years, including 2403 (Burghfield) DF! before taking command of 966 (Wallingford) Sqn in 2007, and then 2402 (Burghfield) Sqn in 2010. As a staff member he has continued to enjoy a wide variety of events, most notably the 2009 International Air Cadet Exchange to Ghana, and has achieved instructional qualifications in Weapons training, Heartstart 1st Aid, Low Ropes Courses, Climbing and Abseiling.
As a day job Flt Lt Tocher is a purchasing manager for a vehicle leasing company in Newbury, which has allowed him to develop public speaking and presentation skills. When he isn´t at the Sqn, or teaching gliding, or teaching cadets one of his other specialist subjects; Flt Lt Tocher enjoys sleeping!!
